Wi-Fi is coming to Amtrak

Amtrak's high-speed Acela trains will soon have high-speed Internet. The program to place free use of Wi-Fi on the Acela trains beginning in March. Amtrak is also addiing leather seats to most Acela trains. So imagine sitting in your leather seat, turning on your laptop and getting connected to the Internet.

How about that. You can ride in comfort and communicate by way of the Internet to.

They will probably raise ticket prices to compensate.

Meh. For $15 I can get a bus to Boston South Station from 34th Street and 8th Ave that already has wifi and only takes 3.5-4.5 hrs! Go Boltbus! I'm not crazy about the trains - sure, they're a bit more comfortable, but they're infinitely more expensive! Bolt and Mega both have wifi - and leave from midtown. I can understand it when the only cheap bus options were Fung Wah and Lucky Star, but now Amtrak will have to lower, not raise, prices if they want to compete with the bus companies!

I understand what you mean. When I travel, I try to find the cheapest way. Unfortunately, trains do not offer that convenience that much. Maybe with so much competition, the trains will be forced to lower their prices. Hopefully. Only time will tell if they do.

Thanks for your post.

I'm pretty annoyed that you have to pay for WiFi in airports. It would be so easy to offer it as a public service to travelers, but instead they let private providers use it as a way to milk us all for a few more dollars..as long as we're trapped there for endless hours anyway.

@Uraniumfish Since when do you have to pay for WiFi in airports and which airports exactly? Think I've only had to use it in Atlanta and Tampa, where at the time it was free.

Newark recently. Also Tegel in Berlin and Schiopol in Amsterdam. Trapped in all three over the holidays.

That's a shame that people have to pay for Wi-Fi. As much as airports charge for tickets, I would think they would provide that as a free service.

I was in Hong Kong last week and its airport had free WiFi . Wifi is free at Singapore's Changi as well as at Mumbai .and Delhi International airports. Fantastic stuff but not at NYC's JFK . US airports like the US domestic airlines with (the exception of Southwest) seem to want to nickle and dime every service because its free money for them Seeing them the Brits have followed suit.. check out the new fees and charges at British Airways and Virgin grrrrr makes me maaad to say the least...
