Walking Around Soho

A friend of mine told me recently that you can walk around Soho and find a lot of things to do. One of the biggest things he said was that you can pick up people there. In other words you can find someone to date just by looking around. I don't know how true that is, but I will state this. I did go throuh Soho a few weeks ago, and had a young woman make a pass at me.

What you do think? What experiences have you had walking around in the area?

I'm not sure about getting picked up, hhusted, but I do find SoHo one of the most pleasant places to walk around. The cobblestoned streets, cast-iron-decorated buildings, and general ambiance I find really enjoyable, although it's a bit too crowded on weekends.

It could be the time of day or week. I have talked to a few people who claim they were hit on while walking around. A couple told me they met in Soho and married a year later. I guess it depends on when you go down there. I guess the more people are around the better chance of meeting someone. However, I tend to look at Soho as a place to walk around, enjoy the sights, and visit stores.

Do you stop in the stores, what little there are in Soho?

Soho is one of my least favorite neighborhoods downtown. I feel like it's overrun with Euro tourists, American tourists, wannabe rich people, 12 year old models . . . echhh. I feel like the West Village is so much nicer for things to do and people watching. You can sit at Extra Virgin for hours and interact with strangers. On a nice day? Heaven.

@JenMac Agreed. I actually like SoHo a lot, but absolutely not on weekends, when it turns into a Euro-mall, just like you described. I used to work in the neighborhood and still have my favorite haunts there. Now that rents have come down, I'm considering making the move back, if I can find a a good deal on an office space. Might be only a matter of time.
