This Day in NYC History....
In case anyone is interested, on this day in 1784, the state legislature meets for the first time at City Hall on Wall Street. At this time NYC was also the state capital of NY, until 1796 when Albany was chosen.
The opinions expressed here are those of the individual and not those of StreetAdvisor.
Also, in 1908, the city's first "No Smoking" law was passed. But this law only applied to women. They were not allowed to smoke in public. Mayor George McClellan vetoed the measure.
Lucky for you females that he did veto it or you wouldn't be smoking today, or would you.
