Nightlife for Those Under 21

My recommendation: Fat Cat in the West Village. It's a great jazz club/pub with board games, etc. They card you, but put a stamp on your hand to prevent your buying alcohol if you're under twenty-one. The cabaret at Birdland (Jim Caruso's Cast Party) didn't card or ID me when I was an under-21 - but I'm not sure if that's because they card separately for alcohol or because they just didn't bother!

Maybe Birdland didn't care. Maybe they just wanted bodies for the night so they wasn't worried about who came in. Those are the kind of places you have to be careful going to, because you could end up being in a bad place. Not saying they are bad, but when you get a bunch of drunks together, they have been known to create trouble.

Sometimes they do the wristband thingy for people who want to drink, and then you only get carded for that...

Hard to say ajadedidealist. I never went to a bar, so I can't really commit on the atmosphere. I just know what people tell me. Still, you have to be careful, because you never know who will walk in that door.

I remember reading about this bar. They seemed to be okay. But one day an undercover cop came in and ended up arresting a number of people. They found a hidden room where people were gambling and making dope. I can't remember where I read that, but it was a strange set of circumstances that occurred at that bar.
