New Yorkers to Live Five Extra Months

Did you read the NY Times today. I rarely buy it, nor do I go online and read it, but I saw a headline that stated New Yorkers are expected to live five months longer. That intrigued me so I checked it out and this is what I found:

Read it and let me know what you think.

But the question is: how to spend those months?
I'll spend mine partying it up in NYC for starters - visit all those museums I've never gotten around to, finally make use of my local public library, check out that new French bistro around the corner...

Does this have anything to do with living in New York, or is it just the product of life expectancies rising for everyone in the US? In industrial nations life expectancies have risen steadily. Feeling skeptical about this article. Just seems like they wanted to find a way to turn a statistic into a gimmicky article to fill up a little space for deadline time, and didn't bother to go into much depth or analysis of the facts.
