it is a 40-seat art deco lounge thart is next to the Surrey Hotel lobby. When you walk into it, the atmosphere feels like money. The menu ius divided into classic, seasonal, vegetal, and global. You will find the menu changing on a weekly basis.

Ofrenda is located at 113 South Seventh Ave. It can be found in the West Village. The phone number is 212-924-2305.
This place offers home-style Mexican food that is cooked by a chef who was trained at Le Cordon Bleu in Paris and the CIA in Hype Park. luis Arce Mota will whip up foods like chimichangas with crab and tamarind sauce, or chicken mole and pan-seared scallops with cascabel pepper butter sauce. If you like Mexican food, you will like this place. By the way, the word "Ofrenda" means "Offering" in Spanish. There is not a food choice on the menu that is over $20.

Robert is located at 2 Columbus Circle on the 9th flr. They can be found at Midtown West. Their phone number is 212-299-7730.
If you like a sky-high, multicolored Jetsons-style restaurant with wraparound views of Central Park, you will love to hang out at Robert. It is actually located in tyhe Musem of Arts and Design building. The restaurant is named for the late Robert Isabell, a well known party planner. The atmosphere is futuristic. For entertainment, they have a jazz pianist at the baby grand piano.

Check them out if you like. It is always good to have new faces to go to, especially if you are tired of going to the same restaurant.

If anyone knows of any new restaurants springing up in your neighborhood, why not list them here for others to see.

Tiny Thai? Sounds small. Have to check it out when I get there some time soon. When you check it out, let everyone know. I'm not sure when I'll get up that way since I live on 27th St on the East Side.

Choptank opened today:
Choptank, 308-310 Bleecker Street, at Grove Street (212-675-2009).

Haven't been, but the write-up in Daily Candy makes it sound delish: "But college pals turned business partners Josh Morgan and Robert Werhane (past projects: Dell’anima, L’Artusi) know what floats our boat: Today they open Choptank, an unpretentious seafood spot named for the Maryland river near where the lads grew up, featuring chef Matthew Schaefer’s (Le Bernardin, The Mermaid Inn) affordable aquatic-centric fare.

"We’ll be getting handsy with peel ’n’ eat shrimp, fried chicken with black pepper honey and cabbage slaw, and pan-roasted striped bass with thick chips and malt vinegar."

Colicchio & Sons opened today - it's a restaurant featuring the talents of chef Tom Colicchio of Top Chef and Gramercy Tavern fame.

85 Tenth Avenue, at 15th Street (212-400-6699)

Apparently the restaurant will be featuring a 15% discount during their preview period, which is supposed to last "several weeks."

Other newish restaurants that are gaining some press are the new restaurant at the Breslin (new American fare) and the Italian Maialino at the Gramercy Park Hotel - both are causing a bit of stir among the chattering classes (hitting the blogosphere, celebrity sightings, etc). Not necessarily my scene, but I imagine it's a good place to see and be seen in the first few months before the novelty wears off..

It is interesting that new restaurants are opening nearly everyday. And here I thought NYC was nearly dead economically. Well, I hope the new restaurants can stay open for a while, particularly if the food is really good. Ummm ummm good.

I usually refer to metromix new york -http://newyork.metromix.com to find out about new restaurants though I tend to wait a while before I head out to check out new restaurants as some of them I feel are really not worth all the hype.Funnily enough when I plan to go out to dinner I tend to choose a tried and true location rather than one which is new and trendy.

Yeah, I agree with you uptowngirl. It is better to check out the restaurants before going. You never know how good or bad it is until you learn about it.
