If you happen to be gay, lesbian, bisexual, or a transgender, there are places you can go in the city where you can feel comfortable, knowing you will be with others who are like you.

As a very diversified place, NYC tries to deal with each culture the best way possible, this way no one feels left out because he may be sexually oriented differently than others.

The pier off Christopher Street is a popular hangout for gay youth, as it's near the local LGBT center and tends to be a meeting-place of sorts, particularly for teenagers/young twenty-somethings that might need a community center as opposed to, say, a trendy bar in the Meatpacking district. The gay scene really takes off on/after sunset; during the day it's more of a family area...
