Gaining New Employment in NYC

Unemployment is very high in NYC. The unemployment rate is much higher in the city than it is anywhere else. However, this did not stop one New Yorker. Danielle was determined to get a job. She struggled for seven months looking for work, until she finally got the help she needed.

Here is the actual story: http://www.ny1.com/7-brooklyn-news-content/ny1_living/112329/one-new-yorker-s-journey-back-to-employment.

When I read it, I was really inspired. How about the rest of you.

This article proves if you work hard enough and stick to it, you can overcome the odds.

Ugh, nothing's more depressing than looking through craigslist jobs and realizing you can make more money as a "nude poker player" or "hotel room foot model" (actual ads I've seen) than doing anything useful...thank goodness there's one inspiring story out there!

There was a slightly less boo-hoo article in the NY Times a couple of days ago about unemployment among lawyers - here it is! http://www.nytimes.com/2010/01/17/fashion/17lawyer.html

Thanks for sharing that link. It is unfortunate that we have to read the good and bad stuff. But that is what life is about, right. Taking the good with the bad.

@ajadedidealist my brother works at a law firm in the city and just yesterday he was telling me he is fed up of his life which seems to be all work and nothing more. I guess he should consider himself lucky that he has a job but he still entertains the idea of moving to a beach resort and setting up a bar.

Three people I've talked to in the last few weeks were new hires at their current jobs, so there's certainly hiring going on. A fourth person was about to go to a job interview and I had the feeling he would probably get hired. The general hope seems to be that companies will start unfreezing their operations, as they did in the last two years, and hire a bit more soon. It's the hope, anyway.
