Are Subways Safe?

Considering the recent report of a mugger being still at large in the city, how safe do you feel riding the subway?

Do you have a preference for which line is better to ride on? What train do you live closest to and do you consider it safe,especially to ride at night?

@hhusted I do think the subway in NYC is quite safe. Of course if you are going to ride the subway at night you should be smart about it and ride in a car that has other people as well. I tend to use the Lexington line the 4,5,6, trains the most and have even ridden the no.6 train after midnight and so far I have had no bad experiences.

I definitely feel safest on the 4/5/6 train, but by and large I do feel rather safe on the subways - it's rare that you'll not be in a crowded area, which is more than I can say for some NYC cross streets....

Yeah, I like the 4,5, and 6 train lines the most. It seems they have more trains so if you miss one, you don't have to wait long for another train.

Subways are safe! So long as you don't fall on the tracks, then they're not.
