$31 Million Lost by NYC

It is true. NYC lost $31 million dollars. But not by throwing it down the drain or actually losing it on the street. Instead, they lost it by protecting New Yorkers againsrt the H1N1/swine flu virus.

Despite all the fear and hoopla over it, only 200,000 New Yorkers got vaccinated. Go here to read more about this story:

Yep, my sentiments exactly. Now we know why this city is in financial troubles.

If the purpose was to protect against epidemic, I'm not crying over the lost money. Better safe than sorry, and I'm glad they reacted to what was then perceived as an emergency.

@Uraniumfish: The idea of losing $31 million is a big deal to NY, who are cash strapped as it is. I think that NY just overreacted to the hype the media presented. According to CDC, of all the people who died from the swine flu were age groups were those 5 years and younger and 65 and older. I hate to tell you this, but these age groups are always prone to dying from even the flu, since their immune systems are either not mature yet, or are slowing down from age.

It does seem that the effects of swine flu was overhyped by the media, trying to make a sensationalist news story at the expense of national calm. Although thank God the outcome wasn't nearly as bad as it might have been...

My conspiracy theorist friend said that the swine flu was released to lower people's immune systems, get everyone to vaccinate and then release the mother of all of that strain next year for "population control." Ridiculous theory, albeit . .. but, weird fact: one of the UN's orders on the agenda is population control which is a little unsettling.

@JenMac: I know. There is a program on TV about conspiracy theories. Jesse Ventura hosts the show. I just don't recall the day or time.
