"It's Places Like This That Make Marin Expensive..."
This is one of the best state parks anywhere in California - with some of the best views! Mount Tamalpais offers a myriad of hiking trails for walkers of any level. The park winds through redwoods, although the summit offers a different type of green foliage. Several moderate trails parallel the ridgeline, winding through the woods offering several panoramic vistas. Hiking is feasible for outdoorsmen and women of any level, and rock climbing is a popular activity as well.
But it is the summit view that is truly worthwhile. Hike from the base, any of the side trails on the road, or drive up to the summit parking lot and hike to the top for some of the best views ANYWHERE in the Bay Area - or California for that matter. The vistas look onto San Francisco, the Bay, the Golden Gate Bridge, the Pacific Ocean, the Redwood Forests - all unique views that blend together to serve as of a reminder of what makes the Bay Area so special.
