"Windy and twisty but worth it"
Like many other highways that run through the coastal redwoods of Northern California, the Panoramic Highway in Mill Valley is not for the faint of heart - or the weak of stomach. However, the drive is well worth it. The views of the horizon are nothing short of breathtaking from this appropriately-named highway (actually a two-lane road). Hiking trails take you down into the beautiful redwoods, and all the way to Muir Woods National Monument. Just be prepared for the uphill hike back out!
If you can find it, one of the best attractions of the Panoramic Highway is the Art Club, an outdoor bar that is on a hiking trail, not far off the highway. They serve pints of beer, accept cash only (to my recollection), and play host to a unique-looking group of hipster types. There is a whole membership policy that I do not entirely understand, and you are not allowed to bring parties larger than six, but it is just about the only bar located directly on a hiking trail that I know of. Seating is primarily, if not exclusively, outdoors.
While the drive may be a bit tough, the views and the hiking make it well worth the trip!
