What is Schnecken? I hear it's popular in Cincinnati.

Schnecken is a buttery, gooey, cinnamon-y, buttery, raisin-y, buttery traditional German pastry. In Cincinnati they are a holiday tradition. They make great holiday gifts or a tasty holiday morning breakfast. However, as mentioned previously, they are very buttery...so make sure you have a number of people to share the super rich goodness with so that your cholesterol levels don't skyrocket.

Ahhhh... Schnecken.
I was an adult when I first tasted that sticky sweet, traditionally German pastry. Lots of bakeries sell it, but the person who bought me my first Schnecken explained that the best place to get it was Virginia Bakery in Clifton. They only sold it during certain times and on certain dates. When they did, you had to stand in line to get it.
Virginia Bakery closed years ago, but for a few years after that they continued to open the shop several days a year to sell Schnecken only. Now Busken Bakery offers Virginia Bakery Schnecken made from their original recipe.
You can see a picture of Schnecken in an original Virgina Bakery box at: http://www.virginiabakeryremembered.com/Schnecken.html
