"A quiet little community in southeastern Colorado"

Wiley is a small community of only 406 people in the southeastern region of the state. While there isn't much in the way of shopping or dining, Lamar is only a 15 minute drive away. Lamar only has about 8,000 residents, so it still isn't a huge town. For larger shopping, trips to Pueblo are necessary, and Pueblo is a two hour drive away. Although it may seem remote, I can completely understand why someone would want to live here. The town has a very clean look to it and the majority of the homes are very well taken care of. The streets are wide and open and there is just a friendly air about the place.

While the median household income is just $34,302 the homes are much cheaper than you'd expect. An average median priced home is just $59,729. Many of the homes here are older and some were built at the beginning of the 20th century. But they have a certain charm to them and they each have a character of their own, with no two looking alike. Many of them have large beautiful trees in the yard providing shade from the hot summers.

The most common industry here is educational services, followed by transportation and warehousing. Some of the residents travel to Lamar for work and many make use of the two reservoirs which are located here. Fishing and hunting are a big part of life in this area as well.

Overall, if I was looking to move to a small, out of the way town, I would really consider Wiley. The people are friendly, the homes are all nice, the yards look good and there is a nice, calm, open feel to the area.

"Wiley -- a little cowboy, farming town out near Kansas"

Wiley is a very small agricultural community in southeast Colorado of about 500 people. Just north of city town Lamar, Wiley is only about 25 miles from Kansas. The city of Pueblo is due east about 90 miles and is the closest big towns for extensive shopping options for those who live in Wiley.

John Martin Reservoir State Park and Neenoshe Reservoir are two large bodies of water near Wiley for fishing, hiking and camping. The area agriculturally oriented but there is a lot of water in lakes, creeks and the Arkansas River flows south of town. Hunting and bird watching are also popular in the area and there is a wild west cowboy feel to the area.

Homes in town are affordable in the $50,000-$150,000 range. Average household income is about $30,000. The Wiley School District is home to the Wiley Panthers, sports in the public school system seem to be an important part of the town's identity and spirit.

  • nice community
