"Life in Elgin, Texas"

Elgin, Texas is located 30 min. east of Austin, Tx. and is considered by many to be the BBQ capital of Texas. Running just off HWY 290, this beautiful stretch of land is an ‘ideal’ place to live for those with families to raise.

When walking down Main Street, the first thing you notice is the beautiful old buildings. If you like greenery, then you will love it here. Elgin also has mostly modern architecture, so anyone suited to today’s chic visual living styles would be well suited here. Many of the houses in the town are two to three stories and have moderately spacious living areas. Pools and tennis courts are not that uncommon, mainly due to the larger land allocations. But this isn’t a problem for most as Elgin Recreational is only 5 minutes walk down the road and has tennis courts, swimming pools and gymnasium. Elgin's local gym is also open 24hrs.

During the week, Elgin is like most in the area…quiet and comfortable. There is very little noise from traffic and it’s a great place to live for couples and small families. On weekends Elgin’s location really shines. Just around the corner is City Cafe. Perfect for Saturday afternoon coffee’s and Sunday brunch, the quiet locale pleases most. Also located just 15 minutes from Elgin is the town of Bastrop. Not too big and not too small, this town of shops houses some of Texas' finest retail chains especially when it comes to fashion. Bastrop also houses a Bowling Ally/Cinema complex and arcade entertainment area which is very popular with the under 20’s crowd on Saturday nights.

At the east end of Elgin is Memorial Park. This is a great area for taking the kids on the weekend and having a nice Sunday afternoon BBQ and there is also children’s playground to keep the young ones occupied. Although generally quiet during the week, the barbeques are very popular during the summer months so it is advised to get there early on weekends to make sure you don’t go hungry.

Getting around is a breeze from Elgin as well. Just 2 minutes from anywhere to HWY 290 which connects you to Austin.

Overall Elgin, TX has a great feel about it. It’s fantastic all year round with green trees combined with modern stylised architecture. Housing mostly young couples, often seen at Memorial Park with the children for a weekend BBQ, Elgin in Texas is a real find that I’m sure most would find very hard to beat.
