What's a good family-friendly restaurant in White Plains?

Preferably not a chain, though I have nothing against them. I just want to try something different the next time I'm in the area.

All great suggestions! Here are a few of my family's picks and, interestingly, they are all chains. We enjoy Giordano's Pizza - the Chicago institution - and their deep-dish pizza. The Cheesecake Factory and P.F.Chang's draw us back because of their food although I'll readily admit that the lines and wait in both these places are not at all conducive for last-minute plans. If you can plan ahead and call and make reservations, they both offer good menu selections that make them worthwhile for us.

Emma's Ale House is one choice with their relaxed, casual and congenial atmosphere. They serve classic American comfort foods and pretzels and mustard instead of the traditional pre-meal bread and butter. Kids could always have burgers and fries or tater tots. Yet the food choices for adults can still be pretty sophisticated. The Iron Tomato is one of my favorites and is welcoming to all. It has everything from gourmet pizzas to sandwiches to prepared foods, baked goods and gelati. Impulse Hibachi and Noda's are always entertaining for young and older, alike with their table-side cooking. Then there is Roberto's Grill Cafe with its unpretentious atmosphere and authentic Mexican food. Melt Sandwich Shop, Cheeburger Cheeburger, The Melting Pot with its fun and flavorful cheese and chocolate fondue selections, Haiku Asian Bistro and Sushi Bar, the City Limits Diner and the White Plains Diner on Westchester Ave.
