Can I take a bike on the Metro North trains? Is there a special section for bikes?

Yes, but you do have to obtain a permit (unless it is a tried and true folding bike) and there are specific rules as to the bike's dimensions. The bike must be free of excessive dirt etc., one has to wait til alll others board and you have to stay in close proximity of your bike. Also, bikes must be single-seats, human powered only with a wheel diameter of no larger than 27 inches and overall maximum dimensions of 80X48. Also, there are specific times of day when you can't bring a bike on board, period. You should check the MTA site for more info. The application fee is five dollars.
