West 118 St, Morningside Heights

W 118th st is smack dab in the middle of the Columbia University and Barnard College campus. I would recommend getting on Columbia’s campus and taking a look at some of buildings, including Low Library which has a beautiful rotunda. You should definitely take a visit to Havemeyer where Spiderman filmed in the large lecture hall. Otherwise, west of Morningside Park, there aren’t any local businesses on W 118th st, just a large university.

I like Uptown because it's really casual and seemingly more normal than some other areas of the city and 118th Street fits the bill. Small businesses and residential buildings sit in the shadows of Columbia and Hospitals have called the general area home for awhile. It still maintains residential charm which is great in a city that is constantly growing and expanding.

West 118th Street has a lot of convenient shops and businesses. It sits right next to Columbia University and the area between Morningside Drive and Amsterdam Ave can get a bit rowdy because of it's proximity to the Columbia Campus but across Morningside Park the area becomes quiet with a nice mix of housing options and neighborhood stores.

This street is chalked full of businesses, churches, and places to eat, and there is a nice vibe and overall comfort and ease to the street. I liked how friendly the people were, and ready and able they were to serve you in the stores, and the unpretentiousness of the people on the streets. All in all it was a very good street in my opinion.
