"Almost rented an apartment here"

So if you have a bike or car, this is a place for you. if you are only a walker, forget it. The bad first: there is only ONE bus, and it is a 10 minute walk from here, and it runs every 30 minutes. Blech! But if you have a car, there is parking and this place is quite nice.

I saw a HUGE home here, hidden amongst the trees. The corral with city police horses and a few local as well is right here. This is seriously like owning a home in the north woods, only you are still in San Francisco proper. Occasionally, you are even woken by the horns at the now refurbished but no longer used military base.

This place has such amazing history, being an active military compound during WWI and WWII. There are no ammenities here, so you really should have a car, but if you do this is the place to live. Also, renting is surprisingly cheap, though you need to get on a waiting list for quite some time, or be accepted into an existing household.

This is a great escape for people who love what cities have to offer, but hate the noise and chaos they tend to have as well.

"This street takes you to the beach"

If you own property here, well man! This is the last main road before Baker Beach, one of the best beaches for lounging and wandering in the city. The street gets pretty sandy, and has the occasional beer bottle - so dont send kids down it, especially barefoot. With Lincoln Blvd right there, it can also get a little noisy, but not too bad. And at night you can hear the waves. That said, there arent any super markets, movie theaters, or laundry mats nearby, so you will NEED to own a car to live here.

"I live near here - wish it was here!"

You will never live here. Just accept that if you are using this service. These houses are probably a couple million each...EACH! But that said, it is some of the most beautiful architecture in the city for homes. I definitely suggest you just take a walking tour of this entire area; see the homes, the yard work, and appreciate the view and distance from the Presidio. At some point, when I am a multi-millionaire, I will buy a home here.

"Had a friend on Granville - so know this street, too"

The little pocket of "Way's" here is a cute neighborhood - tucked away from the main roads so there isn't much traffic; things are quiet, parks are nearby, and its safe. I will say the roads can get pretty dirty, especially outside of this pocket, but Allston itself stays clean. Parking is a PAIN if you don't have a garage, since EVERYONE uses the side streets to park. And there really isnt anything to do but take the "L" downtown, so I would not recommend this for singles, college kids, etc.

"A friend grew up here - fine"

Well, its a nice place for kids: safe, quiet, lots of trees and parks. Its kinda near the "L" line, so you can get downtown and to the zoo pretty easily. But otherwise, its pretty boring. There's no good movie theaters, museums, or art - though of course there is a lot downtown. Parking is TERRIBLE, and it's pretty dirty streets. A lot of the houses do have backyards, so that is a definite plus.

"Awesome neighborhood feel"

This is THE place for privately owned boutiques, bakeries, and shops. I love wandering the road on my weekends, smelling the fresh flowers and bread, watching the neighbors talking together as they water the plants. This is really the closest place in the city to home for me - a suburb right in the near-heart of the peninsula. There is only one overpriced supermarket, so that is a total downer, but the small local markets and parks are worth the trouble.

"Definitely a place for hip young families"

So this street is UBER quite and very green, but not much nightlife to speak of; no bars, pubs, clubs, etc. That said, young couples with young kids would LOVE it. There are parks near by, some great family restaurants, and downtown is all of a 10 minutes drive or bus ride away, so you can get all the culture you want. Its extremely pricey, though what isn't right now, so keep that in mind. Also, the street parking is difficult, but a lot of the homes have garages.

"A fun gem to know about"

This is a great shortcut from Market to Mission, with a few hole in the wall joints that may be fun to check out. I frequently use this street between classes at the Art Institute, especially when I am running late, so as to avoid the traffic and tourists and students that tend to crush Market, Mission, 2nd, and 3rd.

I dont think there is even the option to live here, but you should know about it if you are in a rush!

"Great for families:"

So being a young adult, I dont live on this street. There isn't much of a nightlife at all. That said, this is an amazing neighborhood for kids and young teens. There is a cheap local movie theater that plays new releases and indie films, and has some amazing popcorn. There is a great cheap pizza joint, and some tasty sushi places along here as well, mostly near Balboa. You are within walking distance of the ocean and, if you live between California or Noriega, walking distance from Golden Gate park. On weekends, you can hear the Drum Circle in the park.

"I love this street and neighborhood"

I am entering my second year living in the Richmond district, and I couldnt ask for anything better. I am at 23rd and Anza, and it is the ideal spot. It is removed from the busy Geary Street, but near enough that I can hit up the best margharita joint in the city, Tommy's in minutes. There is also a super market and walgreens within walking district, and tons of great vietnamese joints - including the best Pho in town. Definitely recommend this place!
