"Speed traps and sand traps"

Pinecrest cops love this road more than most. It's a long stretch of street that doesn't get too busy between 57th Avenue and 77th Avenue. They will park behind a tree at this public park near 70th Avenue, so watch out because they'll pull you over for during 38 in a 35. Other than that, lots of nice little streets with plenty of families branch off of it. A bit west of South Dixie you'll find a nice golf course where you can get a quick 18 in after work.

"Landmark in Coral Gables"

From what I understand Dolphin Mall, this mega shopping center, is infringing a bit on this shopping landmark, but it doesn't stop people from perusing the upscale boutique shops. This area has been mostly unchanged for the past fifty years. Also, go to Actor's Playhouse. Most likely you won't see any big names but it's a great place for local theater and traveling shows. They have especially great children's shows; I've been to about seven either through my childhood or because of my sister and they've been light and fun every time.

"Only one thing going for it, proximity to the Palmetto"

Like in the title, this street has not much going for it in the specific area I speak of. While it runs through a nice neighborhood, I wouldn't wish a vacation on the street on my worst enemy. It is dead quiet and very few people seem to know about the turn off onto The Palmetto Expressway. US1 is one street you want to avoid in the morning drive, and skirting down the back roads through 98th street is a great way to do that.

"Multilane, can feel like a highway."

Kendall Drive actually has a lot going on surrounding it including several strip malls near US1 and a bowling alley near 117th Avenue. Also, check out Dadeland, a huge shopping mall with all the amenities. I spent many embarrassing late Augusts school clothes shopping with my mother there. There are just a slew of chain stores and restaurants right off of this busy street. Unfortunately it can get rather clogged during rush hour, especially because it's Palmetto Highway's last exit before dumping into US1. So please avoid from 4-7 PM.

"Short street with a couple restaurants, boutique shops, and a loud college bar"

This street lies smack in the middle of booming Coconut Grove. Unfortunately most of The Grove hasn't retained the mom and pop feel this historic area once had, but you can find a couple interesting shops on Fuller Street along with Barracuda Bar and Grill. If you're in the mood for white wine spritzers or interesting conversation, then this is not the place for you. However, if you like your beer by the trough while watching college football then welcome to your temple.

"Nice little cul de sac"

Now, the 114th Street I'm talking about is this tiny cul de sac off of 72nd Avenue with no more that four family homes on it. I lived there all through my elementary school years and it was a great place to grow up. There are a couple of negatives in living on this street if you're a family with young impressionable children. There is a canal in between the two back houses that any kid over the age of 5 could easily scale a fence into. Another is that 72nd Avenue can get rather busy and since 114th is a small road kids will want to explore, so beware.

This is in very close proximity to Suniland, which is a 3 block strip mall with my favorite Miami food chain, Chicken Kitchen.

"Long Busy Street"

This stretch of concrete runs through a charming area, Pinecrest Village, although this avenue is anything but charming. There is always traffic. People are always speeding and getting into accidents. However this is an excellent detour if you're trying to avoid the considerable heavier traffic in South Dixie Highway running through South Miami. My Great memory of 77th Avenue is Keg South, a hole in the wall dive bar stuck in the middle of suburbia. I spent many a senior skip days playing pool there. It's between 104th St and 112th st right off of 77th Avenue.

"Feels like a nice safe street straight out of the 1950s"

This charming street lined with tall palm trees runs through Palmetto Bay, but don't get confused as the area got it's name more for the tax differential than anything else. From 74th Avenue to 77th Avenue lies Coral Reef Park, a great place for picnics, soccer, baseball, tennis, and long runs. An elementary school shares the land with this park so this is the perfect area for a young family. If you're not the outdoorsy type, no worries, there is a Blockbuster Video on the corner of 152nd and US1, however don't troll for nightlife because there just isn't any.

"Outdoor shopping mall and near schools and play grounds"

136 Street or Howard Drive runs on the border of Pinecrest Village and Palmetto Bay. Because there are higher taxes in these adjacent neighborhoods drivers should beware since there are plenty more cops with nothing better to do than set speed traps on this main road. Just on the West side of US1 there is The Falls, a family oriented outdoor shopping malls with about a hundred restaurants, franchises and boutique shops. On the other side of US1, Chapman Field lies not too far from the intersection of 136th Street and Old Cutler, where you can find several baseball diamonds to play on if the local little leagues.

"Decent fun area with relaxed nightlife"

Red Road, also known as 57th Avenue, has a very nice outdoor mall named Sunset Place near 72nd Street. There one can find bars, restaurants, shopping, and movies all while still enjoying the Florida sun. It really is an area for all ages though. I hung out there from middle school well through my adolescence. While the other side of US1, Red Road becomes somewhat residential through Bird Road when it reaches the Coral Gables area, it remains a main road and can sometimes have heavy traffic. Visit the neighborhood's first Whole Foods Market, near the intersection of Red Road and US1.
