"Not the place for kids and families."

S. H extends way out into the outskirts of Bakersfield. Once you reach the railroad tracks you've officially gotten into an area that most people wouldn't feel comfortable being. This is a very bad area, known for gang activity, shootings, robbings, jumpings, and other things of the like. If you happen to find yourself in this area, be cautious and don't go out to eat here!

"Scary until you get to know it..."

Lincoln Street is definitely in the 'bad' side of town, but it's not as bad as some. The houses are really old, and unless they have been well taken care or restored, they're really falling apart. There are a lot of people, and if they like you then you're fine, but if they don't then you may be in trouble. I could walk/run outside but only with my well trained pit bull and can of mase. There are some really great parks around this part of town however.

"And you thought Union Ave was bad..."

Compared to South Union Ave, Union is like a piece of cake. South Union is dirtier, grimier, and much more dangerous. Not recommended to anybody that doesn't have specific business there doing something. Got lost here once as a teenager with my friend and was terrified. Prostitution, drug addicts and homeless people are abundant.

"Not a place to live."

White lane is in the scarier part of town for sure. It's run down and poor. I lived in this area for a while, and had to three major incidents that caused me not to leave my apartment by myself. After a gun shooting at the local Denny's, and my roommates being jumped and robbed whiled on their skateboards, the power mysteriously got shut off. I left shortly thereafter. I don't recommend this street to anybody, for any reason.

"Not a place for the family..."

And certainly no where to take a date. This is one of the worst streets in the city, and one of the most well known for drug addicts and prostitutes. There are some decent businesses, but this is definitely not a place to be at night if you're not familiar with the area, and I'd certainly not take children there. The bad part of town.

"The one and only...."

Chester Avenue is really where it's all at when it comes to Bakersfield. It's got everything, and it doesn't have it then it can lead certainly lead you to it. While mostly clean and nice, it does have a few bad places that you may not want to stop for too long, so be sure and watch where you are going. This street literally goes from one end of Bakersfield to the other, so be fore warned!

"The Place To Be"

Ming Ave is one street in Bakersfield that is just absolutely packed, from end to end it's got something going on. Get off Highway 99 onto Ming and you're right at the Valley Plaza Mall. If you're a shopper, then this is the place you want to be! This road stretches out pretty far through Bakersfield, so be careful when driving from end to end!

"One of the Main Connector Streets"

There are a few streets in Bakersfield that run pretty much all the way through it. This is one of those streets. If you're ever in doubt and stumble upon Truxton, take it. It goes through some bad neighborhoods, but is mostly a business filled street. It also takes you to Chester Ave, which is another of the main streets in Bakersfield.
