"Young, bohemian slice of history"

Developed on the site of former farmland, Steel Street is currently divided into the east half and the west half by a Whole Foods market. Both are easily accessible by Westheimer Road - the main thoroughfare of Houston - and I-59 South. The east half is occupied by quaint two-bedroom homes with rising yards. The west half consists of aging and derilect brick tenements under a heavy canopy of ancient oaks. Surprisingly, the sense of community is greater in the newer homes of east Steel, while those of west Steel keep to themselves much more. The wastewater system under west Steel causes it to flood during rainy periods, such that it is impossible to leave the home. Recent upgrades have alleviated the issue somewhat, with nearby developments receiving systems that may help the issue.
