"Greatest neighborhood in San Diego"

Walk to anything you would ever need from this neighborhood. Unique shops, bookstores, coffee shops, every kind of restaurant you can imagine. Whole foods, Trader Joes, Ralph's, bars with great Happy Hour menus. Hillcrest has a vibrant community. Retirees, students, straight and gay people are all welcome in this friendly community. The summer host the annual Pride parade which is always fun and exciting. It is a very progressive place to live. There is a farmers market every Sunday, you will find a wide array of fruits, vegetables and other wonderful organic goods. Balboa Park is world class . We have the fabulous San Diego Zoo , Museums are all located in the park area. There is plenty of parking but if you live in Hillcrest you can walk to the park. It is that close! I can't say enough great things about this area. Wonderful urban area.

"People and Pet Friendly- Pride in Homeownership"

Robinson Ave has two distinct personalities- west of Tenth Ave there is an abundance of restaurants and nightlife/ trendy shops. East of Tenth Ave is more residential with a mix of condo/apartments and small single family homes. Just before Park Ave, two blocks north of Robinson Ave is another area in Hillcrest with a multitude of choices for dining and shopping. Pretty much any where on Robinson Ave you are close walking distance to Trader Joes and Whole Foods. There are coffee shops/Florist/book stores and Ralphs shopping plaza within walking distance of Robinson as well. What I enjoy most about Robinson Ave ( I am near Robinson and Herbert) I can walk to the San Diego Zoo, museums. Balboa Park is one of the largest urban parks in the US and is a 5-10 minute walk for me. Exercise is a given for people in Hillcrest. Walking the awesome trails around the park make it easy to stay fit!
The previous comment made on this site about Robinson Ave being a dumpy area is misleading. I don't know where he/she is referring to. Just like any other urban neighborhood, unfortunately there are homeless people. We take pride in our homes/condo's. People are friendly and polite. Even the homeless people are friendly in San Diego! I have always felt safe walking in my area in the day or night.
Pros
  • Restaurants, Shops, Wine Bars, Trader Joe's, Whole Foods
  • Friendly people, safe area to walk, Hillcrest welcomes Everyone
  • Close proximity to beautiful Balboa Park
Cons
  • Traffic on University Ave
