"Leafy, quiet, friendly, convenient"
The street is very attractive with large trees and little traffic. There are a lot of people who walk with babies in strollers, kids, dogs, etc.
The street is mixed with young professional families with children, empty nesters, retirees, and a few singles. Homes are 1 to 1 1/2 stories and range in size from about 3,000 square feet to 5,000 with generally pleasing architecture from the 1950s through 70s and professionally maintained, manicured lawns. Nearby shopping is among the best in the nation. Restaurants are excellent, plentiful and varied. There is a paucity of bars except in restaurants because the area is "dry". A ten minute drive is necessary to buy alcoholic beverages (except in restaurants). That's not too inconvenient and keeps the ill-effects of liquor stores and bars away from the neighborhood.
Most of the children attend private or parochial schools. The local public schools are unfortunately mediocre. The French/international school is only blocks away and the best private schools in the city are nearby.
We are considered centrally located in the city of Dallas although the greenery and quiet make it seem more like a suburb. Dallas went through a troubled period of governance that seems to have reversed and is now improving rapidly. The local city councilwoman is very responsive to constituents. There is a large public park with a large swimming pool, baseball diamonds, a gymnasium with workout rooms, basketball courts, etc., a few blocks away.
The people on the street are unusually friendly. Many of us are second generation residents who look after neighbors creating a sense of security, although the police response is not as good as in some suburbs.
3 major freeways are within a mile. Most of the new residents site convenience as the reason they chose the street. There is a train station about a mile away but I don't think it is much used by residents of the street who rely on cars. There is a major hospital complex less than a mile away. The street is more affordable than many of the surrounding neighborhoods where house prices begin at more than $1million.
