I've always considered Crescent street the cutting off point of Astoria. I would never want to live on a street below Crescent street as the area seems to get worse and worse but everything above Crescent street is really nice. My friend lives on Crescent and AStoria Blvd and I find it to be a nice place but the area is a bit scary at night.

28th Street is a bit more residental than 29th Street is at least around 36th Avenue area. It's got some great cute houses (not many big buildings like 29th Street) and seems more peaceful and serene. There's plenty on the avenues in terms of restaurants and shops but nothing of the sort really on 28th street itself. Broadway & 30th Avenue have the most while Astoria Blvd & 36th Avenues aren't as built up. Ditmars is also a great area for 28th street.

43rd Street is a great residental street if you don't mind being away from the public transportation. The houses are cute but there's not much street parking unless you go all the way down towards Ditmars. 43rd Street and 30th Ave where I lived had a lot of dog doo on the street which was annoying while walking. Otherwise it was close enough to 30th Avenue to have some great restaurants available.

Newtown Road is a great quiet street that goes past some of the great Avenues in Astoria. It's a great hidden short cut for walking home from the 46th Street R,V train stop and is much quieter than the avenues that surround it. It's much more residential too. I would recommended it for families and people who don't mind living a bit further away from the city life.

I had friends who lived on 21st Street for years but I wouldn't advise it. It's noisy and very industrial. It's a bit far from the subway although there are buses that run. After dark it gets a bit scary and I wouldn't want to walk alone.

I lived on 45th Street by Ditmars for the longest time. Although there is little transportation and it's a bit of a walk to the subway the quietness of the streets make up for it. Everything was cheaper out there. There's even a bake-shop where I used to get fresh baked bread for $.35. It's a GREAT area for families and good for people who like the quiet life.

29th Street in Long Island City Queens is a nice street. There’s not really any retail (or even good grocery stores). The best stores and restaurants are located on Broadway which is a good 10 minute walk or 1 subway stop away. It’s annoying but the shops on Broadway are really great. The closest grocery store on 36th Avenue is very small and doesn’t have much but there’s a great grocery store and a health food store on Broadway.

30th Avenue has TONS of great restaurants and shopping. I lived off of 30th Avenue of quite some time and still miss the great food. There’s a wonderful Thai place around 36th Street and a couple of great brunch spots. There’s even an independently owned music shop that gives guitar lessons and the employees are very nice. 30th Ave really has everything you need.

34th Avenue is much residential than its surrounding area. There is a GREAT restaurant/bar on 33rd street which features martinis of the season which are WONDERFUL. It’s close enough to Broadway to walk over for all the great restaurants and nightlife. Broadway also has great grocery stores including a great health food store.

35th Avenue really has nothing on it other than one pizza shop located around 32nd or 33rd streets. Otherwise it has a dollar store, a wine bar that appears to be more of a sports bar and a laundry mat. None the other businesses are ever open when I pass and seem to be more factory jobs. The street itself is non-residential and seems to be mostly factories.

36th Avenue is really all retail. The shops are ok but mainly sub par. There’s a strong Bangladeshi influence with the grocery stores, restaurants, etc. The supermarket has a small selection and there’s no big drugstore (only 2 small independently owned stores without a large selection). It’s a clean safe area but lacks the basic shops that Broadway or 30th Avenue have
