"Eureka's Island this is not!"

South Eureka Avenue on Columbus' west side is a dump. From West Broad Street all the way down to Mound Street (about a mile and a half) you will see torn up house after torn up house. There are are about three or four that have burnt to the ground. The neighborhood is dangerous and litered with drugs and crime.

A friend of mine lives on South Eureka Avenue right around Sullivant Avenue, and he has had his house broken into seven times in the last five years. Don't even get me started on how many times his car windows have been smashed and his car broken into (he's given up on having a car radio).

Don't get me wrong, the street has many outlets to shopping, eating and many options for entertainment. There is a bar near Eureka and Sullivant, called Eddie's. They play live music and have $1 drinks during happy hour, but you better come prepared to fight becasue it seems like that's all they do there. That goes for gun fights too.

Overall, this is a really low income area that is flooded with crime. If you can live in these types of conditions, go for it, but I wouldn't raise a family on this street.

"Georgesville Road, everything you need!"

Georgesville Road is located on the west side of Columbus. It runs just about the full length of Columbus' west side from north to south. At the intersection of Georgesville Road and West Broad Street is the Westland Mall. This is a large mall with all the major department stores, like JC Penny, Sears and what used to be Lazarus (now known as Macy's). There are a tone of resturants, just like at any other major mall, but my favorite is York's Steak House. I don't know how they do it, but they have the best T-Bone ever!

Down Georgesville Road, about two miles south of the mall is a movie theater that I take my kids to. It wasn't there when I was a kid, but this theater is larger than the movie theater at the mall.

Overall I love Georgesville Road, there are tons of things to do, and it's a pretty safe area (especially compared to the other places on the west side).

"Far West Side, Best Place to Shop and Play"

North Wilson Road, located on the far end of Columbus' west side is strapped with things to do, places to shop and resturants to eat at. At the intersection of Wilson Road and Broad Street (an eight lane intersection) there is TONS of things to do. There are shopping store galore, my favorite would have to be Shottenstein's Department Store. I went there every year growing up to get my school clothes for school. Chuck E Cheese's is also located at this intersection. I went to this CEC's as a kid, and now I take my kids there.

If you travel further south on Wilson Road, there is another shopping center, not as big as the one on Broad Street, but it still has a grocery store and Papa John's - my favorite pizza place. There used to be a Cub Foods grocery store, but they went out of business and now there is a Kroger's Grocery store there.

Overall, it's not a very good place to live, I can only think of one apartment complex in the area. It does have a great outlet to Interstate 70 (with a large truck stop here for truckers), but this area is mostly used for shopping and entertainment.

"Needs something on the West Side? Head to Central Avenue!"

Located in historic Franlinton (better known as the bottoms, S. Central Avenue has pretty much everything you could want to do. Starting on West Broad Street there is a large shopping and fast food resturant area with gas stations, corner stores, and even a Uhaul place to rent a moving truck. About a half a mile south of W. Broad Street is the middle school, Starling Middle, where my wife went to school for 6th and 7th grade. If you continue south on S. Central Ave, you will eventually be dumped into two shopping centers (one on both sides) commonly known as Central Point Shopping Center. Here you will find a grocery store, fast food resturants and even more gas stations.

There are houses scattered between the businesses all up and down Central, but I would never live there. One time we were driving on Central, and we seen a guy get up out of his car and just start beating a girl that was in his car. Another guy walked up to try to stop him, and they ended up fighting right there in the middle of the street (four lanes, two each way). The neighborhood is run down, with a lot of abandoned houses.

Overall i'd say that it's a good place to shop and visit, but not a good place to live unless you can't afford anything else.

"If you want to live on Livingston Ave, go as far out as you can!"

East Livingston Avenue in Columbus, Ohio is a really long road that covers most, if not all, of the East side of Columbus. Starting from downtown Columbus and going east you can find anything from Resturants, Night Clubs, Tatoo Parlors and even the famous Columbus Children's Hospital.

Near the Children's Hospital is not a really safe place to live. As a matter of fact, I wouldn't live within three miles of this hospital due to the crime and drugs in this area. Further on down Livingston, about four miles from the hospital is an area known as Bexley. This area, and Whitehall, are much more safer to live in. It seems as if the further east you go, the safer the neighborhoods are.

Part of Livingston Avenue is State Route 33, which can lead you all the way out of the state. I lived on this part of Livingston Avenue where the Alum Creek River meets Livingston Avenue. Not the best of neighborhoods, but it wasn't too bad. My favorite place to eat was Mr. Hero's. If you go, get the fried mushrooms!

"My home for 7 Weeks a Year, GO BUCKEYES!"

Woody Hayes Drive in Columbus, Ohio is my home for seven saturdays a year. The historic "Horseshoe" is located on Woody Hayes Drive. The Ohio State Buckeyes football stadium is located on Woody Hayes Drive and the Buckeyes usually have about seven home games a year. During the home games, you can't get me away from the stadium. Usually from around 9AM in the morning, till after game time, which can be past sunset, i'm tailgaiting and attending the games. GO BUCKS!

Also on Woody Hayes Drive are an assortment of resturants and fast food chains. You can check out OSU basketball as well, right across the street from the football stadium in the Value City Arena where the Buckeyes play basketball every winter.

This is by far my favorite place to be during the fall season!

"Sandwhiched between everything!"

One of my first apartments was on South Grener Avenue on the west side of Columbus. If you travel west on Broad Street, Grener is the first street outside of interstate 270. There is a Home Depot store, an automotive parts store, a waffle house and a gas station at the entrance of Grener Ave at W. Broad Street. The whole Grener Avenue is only about a mile long. At the south end of the road is a drive through convienience store, and a little east is a Mejier department store.

I lived in about the middle of the avenue. There is a school across the street, with houses surrounding my aparment complex on all sides. Behind that is the freeway and the sounds of large trucks and noisy cars from the freeway can be heard around the clock - part of the reason I ended up moving.

I say sandwhich between everything because just north of Grener is a large shopping center with a pet store, grocery shopping, and even a night club. Fast food and sit down resturants are all around this area as well. Just south of Grener is a Meijer department store, another night club, more resturants, a bowling alley, a pool hall and a movie theater. You can have pretty much any type of entertainment within a five minute drive.

"West Mound Street, a little bit of everything."

West Mound Street in Columbus, Ohio is full of things to do, and places to live. Near the intersection of W. Mound and South Central Avenue is a large shopping center that my family would always shop at when I was growing up. There was a Big Bear Grocery Store, but they went out of business and the store has been converted to a Thrift Store. There are several resturants in this shopping center as well.

If you travel west of this area, there are a bunch of homes, some apartment buildings, and little corner stores galore. Yvette Court is right off of W. Mound St. and is where my first one bedroom apartment was.

This doesn't seem to be a high crime area, but to say it is a nice neighboorhood would be false. It's perfect for low to middle income families. There are several schools close to mound street, including my High School, West High. Go Cowboys!

"Cleveland Avenue is a long road with tons of stuff to do, Just don't live there!"

Cleveland Ave is a long road that stretches from downtown Columbus, all the way to the outer belt of columbus known at Interstate 270. The section nearest downtown is mostly filled with big business factories. The Kroger bakery factory is located on Cleveland Avenue and the smell of freshly baked bread can be smelled for miles. Just north of this is an entrance to Columbus State Community College. Not a major college by any means, but is a good community college for people who can't afford going to bigger schools like Ohio State (which is just over a mile away from Cleveland Ave). Further north on Cleveland Avenue, near 270, is a major shopping area. There are dozens of resturants - everything from TGIFridays to White Castle.

There are some residential parts of Cleveland Ave as well, but these neighborhoods aren't the safest. The intersection of 22nd and Cleveland is a very drug infested area that seems to have a lot of crime. This area is on the news a lot due to the violence.

Overall, i'd say that Cleveland Avenue is a good area to eat, work and goto school but not a good place to live.

"This is where I grew up, But I won't let my kids grow up here!"

S. Wayne Ave, right near the intersection of Apple Street is where I grew up. Back then, it wasn't such a bad neighborhood. Sure, there was an occasional fight, or someone got robbed, but nowadays it seems like there is some sort of violence every single day. The last time I visited (spring 2006) I seen a young kid, that I knew as a baby, getting arested for selling drugs.

I lived between Broad Street and Sullivant Avenue. Both of these major outlets provides direct access to anything you could want to do. COSI is about two miles away on Broad Street. There are fast food restuarants galore, including McDonalds, Wendys, White Castle, Burger King, KFC and Rally's all within 1 mile of S. Wayne Ave.

Westgate park is also less than a mile from my old house and is where I used to go to play almost every day. It's also the park I first "got to know" my wife when we were teenagers!

Overall i'd say that I have fond memories of living on S. Wayne Ave, but it is so run down and drug infested that I wouldn't want to live there now. Hopefully the Columbus Police can clean this neighborhood up before it's too late.
