"Be at peace in the city"

The Marina is one of the best spots to live in San Francisco. It has everything there is to love about San Francisco, in a short, flat, easy to access area. You can find great shops and restaurants on Chestnut street. From cheap eats to fine dining, it's all there. There are also lots of fun night time hot spots. It's true that the crowd can be a little, well, obnoxious, but that's only in some places. And mostly, the people here are friendly, fun, and actually pretty cool. Best of all, the Marina offers great access to parks and the beach. And it's all walkable. Of course, if you're leaving the Marina, you can also easily hop on a bus. Sunny and clean, the Marina is a great place to hang.

"A perfect place to not stop by."

Striving to be objective is difficult when you are describing the area in San Francisco known as the Tenderloin district. It is fair to say that the neighborhood is definitely full of characters. Charm, eehh not so much. Unless for some reason the trash on the streets, aroma of urine, homeless people and drugs tend to be your cup of tea, and it is for some. Not to knock the folks in this area as, all people in the country should have some level of respect as human beings. There are a few bars and eateries worth paying a visit to just be aware of your surroundings while visiting the area.

"More Than Just Fishermen"

Not necessarily a quiet neighborhood for raising a family, Fisherman's Wharf is definitely a must for taking the family for a day or two. One of the most famous attractions of San Francisco, Fisherman's Wharf is located on Pier 39 and very similar to the Seattle Waterfront with novelty stores like Ripley's Believe it or not and restaurants boasting that they serve the best clam chowder in the area. Be careful of the Bushman who hides in bushes and behind branches who has become famous for leaping out and startling unsuspecting passersby for almost 30 years. Grab the family and some spending money and be sure to spend at least a day here!

"The place for the young and hip."

Hayes Valley seems, on the surface, to be where poor artists live and work. Artists are here, many of them fantastic ones, but it's not for the broke! Living in the area is fun because there are many shops, restaurants, and small art galleries to visit. It's close to freeway access, so folks from the East Bay and other parts of San Francisco pass through often, making it a busy place in the day time hours. At night, the energy drops to almost nothing. Only a handful of restaurants and other eateries remain open much past six or seven. People are generally friendly and those that actually live in the valley consider themselves to be part of a special community, giving it that "small town" feel. A standout place to eat is Fritz, the Belgian joint where, it is considered, the best fries are sold. The place is tiny so it's usually packed, sometimes flowing out the door. Hayes Valley has a large number of places to get hair cut, styled, or colored. Many of the shops are geared toward those interested in the newest look. The prices might seem high for out of towners but anyone, man or woman, who frequents the trendy hair salons with super fashionable stylists - there won't be any surprises here. Dogs are welcome to join your stroll down the street, as it's a dog friendly neighborhood, but pets still can't go in stores, even if on a leash. Living in Hayes Valley is pricey and apartments (if any single family houses are left!) are small and hard to find. Like the rest of the Bay Area, buying may be cheap but renting is still expensive. Most places are beautiful and have victorian styling, if not actually victorian.

"High flavor and culture for low budgets"

A great place to live, if you're short on the cash flow but tolerant of a little griminess. Relatively safe, but there are definitely sketchy characters all around - the homeless and aimless, but even worse off, the drunk hipsters and rowdy college kids. This neighborhood definitely has a lot of flavor; not just the cheap and tasty eats (best tacos and burritos in town) but some more refined dining and drinking spots. Hello, gentrification! Lots of public art, also - we're talking government and privately commissioned murals next door to ambitious taggers. The Mission: there's nothing like it.

"A great street to take a walk and enjoy great food and shops."

Chestnut Street in San Francisco is a terrific place to take a walk. There are many cafes and restaurants that are reasonable in price and serve incredibly good food. Many of them feature outdoor seating which is especially nice if your dog is with you. Speaking of dogs, this is a very dog friendly area with several pet stores. Many merchants let you bring your pet in their stores while you shop and several offer treats and/or water bowls. The Marina Market features terrific produce as well as ready to heat store made entrees. There is an Apple store with hands-on demos, and Books, Inc. – a great place to pick up new books at a bargain price. In addition, there are retail clothiers and several banks with ATM’s.

"Young wannabe hipster crowd x weary medical professionals"

Inner Sunset is a unique place - an odd mishmash of hip little boutiques, bars, and restaurants smack up against Golden Gate Park and UCSF Medical Center. Parking can be troublesome, but on the whole the neighborhood is fairly family friendly with something to do every day. Good ethnic eats (a little classier and a little pricier than some of the more "authentic" nabes), and an overall youngish vibe. Good place to go down, if you're medically fragile; there are medical and dental students, young and old doctors and nurses crawling everywhere in this neighborhood. N-Judah will whisk you all the way into downtown - pretty convenient living.

"Cute neighborhood, good for young professionals"

Cow Hollow is a lesser-known area of San Francisco, but it is a great neighborhood to explore. There are lots of boutiques and restaurants, where you can have everything from espresso to sushi, but it is not as saturated as some of the more touristy areas of the city. The Presidio is nearby and although there is some traffic, it is not too bad. It is a good neighborhood to live in and take advantage of all the cute businesses and restaurants. Overall, it is a good neighborhood for pampering yourself at a spa or just strolling and taking in the ambience of this corner of the city.
