"South Ludlow Street"

My first job out of high school was on Ludlow and Second street. I worked in the First National BAnk which was in the Harries Buildling. Our bank moved out and another one moved in. First national Build a brand new skyscraper a block over.

The parking garage for Rike's a fancy department store was across the street and the Rike's store was catty corner from the bank.

Also on South Ludlow was the newspaper, other office buildings, newstands, etc. It is still a one way street. There was a time when there was an excellent Chinese restaurant and a secretarial school. During the Vietnam war there was a silent protest on the corner. Everyday there were people standing there holding anti-war sugbs but not saying anything. One day there would be 20 and the next maybe 5.

"West Third STreet"

West Third Street is a major road out of Dayton which extends west toward West Carrollton and Trotwood. West Third Street has been considered a bad part of town. There are shopping centers and fast food in the area but it looks shaby.

The exciting thing about West Third Street is that part of it is the site of the Wright Brothers Bicycle Shop. When I was a kid driving by that area, there were hourses all along that block and one single vacant lot where they had removed the house of the Wright Brothers and moved it to Michigan.

Plans are to make a wonderful park in that area emphasizing that Dayton, Ohio is the real birthplace of aviation.

The the part of West Third Street downtowm there is a wonderful community college called Sinclair. It was a very well run school and gives a great education to residents. The VA is also along West Third Street.

During the turbulent 1960s there were civil rights marches on West Third Street, over the Third Street Bridge.

"North Dixie Drive"

If you want night life, booze, women, strip tease, etc., part of North Dixie Drive is the place to find it. There are all kinds of bars and night clubs in a few blocks of this drive. There is also a lovely cemetary with a peaceful lake and duck pond. It's very beautiful. There are a couple of old fashioned drive in movies which are older than me. One of them has become a Sunday morning flea market which is quite popular.
