"Borough of Universities & Parks, Fantastic Public Transportation, Safer Than You Think, Gem in Riverdale, Fieldston, Spuyten Duyvil, Kingsbridge"

FACT: More park land than any borough.
FACT: More colleges and universities than any borough.
FACT: Best subway and commuter trains (very short commute to midtown).
FACT: Crime is way way way down in the borough and the neighborhoods in Riverdale have always been safer than all Manhattan neighborhoods including the Upper East & West sides. Overall crime in the borough is down despite the fact that all the crimes committed on Rikers Island get unjustly dumped onto the Bronx crime stats although the only road to the prison is by Astoria/Ditmars in Queens! When Rikers correctional officers need extra assistance by the NYPD they contact cops from the 114th precinct in Queens. Also community board 1 in Queens addresses all issues concerning Rikers and may even get extra funds to do so. Do not know why the Bronx unjustly gets credit for Queens' crimes.

Yankee Stadium, the Bronx Zoo, the Botanical Garden, Wave Hill & the soon to be completed Kingsbridge Hockey Armory make the Bronx a tourist destination. The restaurants may not be as fancy as midtown Manhattan but they are authentic and tasty (Arthur Avenue, City Island and Johnson Avenue have some of the best). Schools? Bronx Science and American Studies at Lehman are not just the best in the city, they are in the top 50 in the entire country. The private schools are elite and some of the best in the nation. There is also a burgeoning arts and music scene in Kingsbridge and Mott Haven.

There is a Brooklyn real estate bubble (seriously how much for Bushwick?) and the properties in Queens are too small for modern day man. So if you're looking to buy or rent, consider the Bronx and get the best bang for your buck! I recommend Fieldston, Riverdale, Spuyten Duyvil, Kingsbridge, Pelham Bay, Morris Park, Schuylerville & CC.

"Might as well live in Perth Amboy New Jersey"

It may be borough but it's more like New Jersey. You must have a car and be ready to pay a ridiculous toll to cross the Verrazano. It boggles the mind why it's so expensive. There is one subway line but it doesn't even go into other boroughs. Move there only if your family and friends live there or else say goodbye to them because you'll never see them ever again.
Pros
  • Safe
  • Beautiful Homes
  • Public Golf Course
Cons
  • Is that New Jersey?
  • Cabs wont take you there
  • Say goodbye to real city life.

"Beautiful safe enclave, way too isolated, no subway or metro north"

My sister and her husband live on a waterfront property in Country Club (CC) and it is beautiful. There is no commercial area in CC. There are also no subways or Metro North in CC SO GET READY TO DRIVE EVERYWHERE! Since my sister moved there four years ago, she had to purchase two cars just so she and her husband can go to work, go shopping, go to the doctor, go to the park(pelham bay park is great), etc. She spends way too much time in her car for my city lifestyle taste. I told her she basically lives in the suburbs so she might as well move to Westchester so to not pay the city taxes. However she loves her beautiful home and area. Schools are good. She does add that the neighborhood is friendly but very close-knit and don't act as kind to outsiders (read between the lines). I told my sister that it's probably because CC residents don't want people outside of the neighborhood taking up parking spots!
Pros
  • Safe
  • Waterfront
  • Pelham bay park
Cons
  • NO COMMERCIAL AREA
  • NO SUBWAY/MUST DRIVE EVERYWHERE
  • HEY YOU! YOU FROM AROUND HERE?!?

"Spuyten Duyvil is Southern part of Riverdale!"

Not sure why Spuyten Duyvil has its its own category because Spuyten Duyvil is part of Riverdale. I just posted the following in the Riverdale ratings so it is appropriate to post here as well:
The NYPD has released its annual crime statistics for New York City in 2013 and the Bronx saw an overall decline. Coming in with the lowest crime rates in the entire borough is the 50th Precinct in Riverdale/Spuyten Duyvil!

RiverD
RiverD Spuyten Duyvil isn't in Riverdale. It's in Spuyten Duyvil. Similarly, Kingsbridge and Marble Hill are their own areas, and not part of Riverdale or Spuyten Duyvil. Riverdale's only sections are North, Central, and South Riverdale... and those are just ways that real estate brokers describe property locations, not official sections.
