The Upper East Side holds most of the prestigious private schools in the city. However, they are insanely expensive. And, I've heard from a number of friends of mine with babies that in order to get into these schools you have to apply your child for the appropriate grade schools while you are still pregnant with the child. It's a really insane process, evidently.
