There are no "subways" near Pier 49, but the "F" street car line starts right around there and two different cable car lines are within a couple of blocks. Also, 3-4 different bus lines run thru the area. Plenty of cabs and even bicycle jitneys for a ride along the Embarcadero. There is no shortage of public transportation if SF.
