Tall Ships in Chicago

WOW! As if I needed yet another reason to love my city! The “Tall Ships” are coming back to Chicago next week! What are the Tall Ships? Originals and/or restored versions of those old-fashioned, multi-sail, vessels from the days of old. I guess one would have to be an “ancient mariner” – at least in spirit – to appreciate these Ladies of the Sea.

For the Tall Ships exhibit, at least 20 of these old vessels will be coming to Navy Pier for a 6-day run. Some of them will even be taking on sailors for a cruise on Lake Michigan. All of them will be allowing visitors to board the ship and see what the insides look like. WOW!

For my part, I will be volunteering as a Line Manager for guests visiting 3 of these majestic vessels. I’m SOOO excited to be participating in this event! I can hardly wait!

Aside from the exhibit, I’m happy to say and brag that one of the boats in the exhibit – the “Windy” is a permanent, sailing Tall Ship at Navy Pier. I’ve been on her a couple of times, for a 3-4 hour voyage to the near south and near north edges of the lakefront. It was spectacular!

Here’s a link to the Tall Ships’ at Navy Pier website for more information. http://www.navypier.com/tallshipschicago/home.html

Chicago is a FABULOUS town, for SOOO many reasons! Yeah, the outlying neighborhoods are a bit rough. But the Downtown area is WONDERFUL! So much to see and do, so little time.

I just came on to post about this and how much my children loved it. From me 2 year old to my 6 year old they were mesmerized by the majesty of these ships.

The cruise around the shore is well worth the time. It is beautiful.
