I live in the “heart” of the loop right now (around the corner from the Willis Tower). I can tell you that it's a great place to live when you don't have children (we now have a 4 month old and looking to move). Monday thru Friday, it is utter chaos - I'm talking can't even walk out of your front door without dodging somebody on the sidewalk. It's crowded, loud and don't even get me started on the traffic. However, come Saturday and Sunday... it's peaceful as can be. Because there aren't a TON of restaurants (mainly offices) it's quiet, traffic free and just a cool place to live. The best part? Being able to walk everywhere (grocery store, pharmacy, and every store you can think of on State Street only a few blocks away). If you don’t feel like walking, just hop in a cab! Hope this helps!

I think it would be fantastic. Obviously it's gonna be loud during the day, but it's also where everything is happening. There aren't a lot of great restaurants, but there's a ton of transportation options, and more than any other part of the city you'll be in the heart of Chicago. There are some great museums, tourist attractions, and people to meet. I might prefer a few other areas, like Wicker Park, but the Loop is a cool place.
