Lots of Retail, but Inconvenient for the Price you Pay

Although there is a huge shopping mall and lots of high end retail, this should for all circumstances be considered the suburbs. Close to Hwy 183 for commuting, but there is normally traffic and you have to get over to Mopac to get where you're going in town. For the extra trouble of living so far o...

A Little Bit Ghetto - But Overall Not Too Bad

There seems to be a lot of poverty in this area, although it is not necessarily a poor part of town. The neighborhoods nearby are cute and seem to be well maintained, but so much of the commercial areas and shopping centers seem dirty. There is always a ton of foot traffic near the HEB and the libra...

Close to central Austin without breaking the bank

Lots of cute little houses and apartments. Someone has even come through and built some ultra-cool duplexes and condos. On the #3 bus route and close to the hip Burnet road area. Also close to Lamar. Nice coffee house at Woodrow and Koenig. Hwy 2222 is a convenient way to either Mopac, Lamar or I-35...

This part of West Campus is full of college students and close to a lot of fraternity and sorority houses.
The Infamous Austin "Drag"

Guadalupe is the main lifeline of the University of Texas at Austin. You'll find lots of awesome restaurants like Madam Mam's Noodle House, Kerbey Lane, and a dozen other places too numerous to be listed. Fun vintage clothing stores abound, as do eclectic shops like Toy Joy. Colorful, exciting, but...

Is it residential or is it high traffic?

Braker lane suffers because it is part residential and part high-traffic thru-way. It could be an easy way to get across north Austin, but it is hampered by school zones and residential areas. Likewise, all the traffic makes it a little bit noisy for the homes just off Braker. Braker has a post offi...

Most people either don't know where Burnet is or write off the entire town north of UT campus as uncool.
Overlooked Cousin to Famous 6th Street

People go downtown and often overlook the cool clubs that are not on the 6th street strip. The Red River clubs usually are more laid back, less glitzy, and just as cool as their 6th street cousins. Stubbs is an Austin classic, and Emo's is a big favorite as well. Be careful walking around as you get...

Sixth Street may get all the credit for being the heart of Austin nightlife, but Red River is really where it's at for the local Austin music scene.
Nice, quiet place to live

Wood Hollow is mostly composed of apartment complexes and homes. It's a nice quiet street, but the hilliness does sometimes make turns a bit dangerous - I was involved in a particularly nasty accident on Far West and Wood Hollow. Overall, though, it's a great street with convenient bus stops to UT...

Cute little street

This cute little street is home to the original Kerbey Lane Cafe, a cute eclectic local eatery that's great for lunch or brunch. All the stores here look like quaint gingerbread houses, painted in bright colors. A great children's store with a huge doll selection, clothes and toys is the other main...

Best street for walking and eclectic shopping and dining

South Congress, or SoCo to the locals, is a great place to shop for local handmade products. Stores like Parts and Labour showcase items made only by Austinites, from cute jewelry and wry T-shirts to fun baby clothes and fashionable purses. Restaurants such as El Sol Y La Luna let you sample the loc...

Fun nightlife street

Just north of the bridge is my favorite section of Congress Ave in downtown Austin. Austin's only jazz club, The Elephant Room, is here, in a basement beneath a sushi restaurant. Across the street is a great place called The Light Bar. They have a cool lit wall fountain that runs behind the seating...

Main nightlife street downtown

If you've ever heard of Bourbon Street in New Orleans, Austin's 6th street between Congress Ave. and Red River Str. is just like it. On busy weekends the street is closed to traffic and pedestrian revelers crowd the street. Every inch of real estate is socially geared; bars, clubs, music venues, res...

Hip, Compact, and Independent Retail District

North Loop is a compact and hip retail district that has a bit of everything. In the central area of this district there are a several vintage shops, a middle-eastern restaurant, a bar, two hair salons, a very good car dealership, a bicycle shop, a motor scooter shop, a bookstore, a record store, a...

Austin is a city full of vibrant nightlife, outdoor activity, bustling economy, good schools and friendly people.

It's been said that Austin lacks culture aside from it's famed nightlife and music scene.
A very small town

I lived in Austin for several years and all i ever heard was...Austin is the greatest place to live. Well, if you are thinking of moving to or visiting, save your money. I hated the place. It is over priced, no real variety when it comes to things to do.
Great Neighborhood if a little busy

Hart Lane is located just east of the Chimney Corners neighborhood in a hilly, picturesque part of town.
One of the last NICE affordable Austin neighborhoods

Gardens of Milwood is a perfect neighborhood for singles, couples, retirees or those with very young children. Homes are approx. 800-1200 sq ft with very small yards. If you want to be in the Austin city limits, this is one of the most affordable, but nice and "safe" places to buy. (Some crime ha...
