"Quiet street. Old neighborhood with established residents."

Stonewick Drive really isn't a Drive at all. It is what I would call a cul-de-sac. The street is located north of Houston in the suburbs but has lots of amenities surrounding the neighborhood. The street and neighborhood is an old established one with lots of trees and wildlife. Many times while driving in the early morning past the schools and park, one can see families of deer taking in their daily nourishment. I often slow down just to watch these wonderful creatures. Often one can also see armadillos, possums, and skunks but what really abounds in the neighborhood are squirrels. They skitter and play in the mornings and afternoons and it is so much fun to just sit and watch them running around.

Outside of the neighborhood there are plenty of places to shop. There is a Wal-Mart that you can drive to without even going out of the neighborhood for those quick trips for dog food or milk and eggs. Just outside of the neighborhood and down the street, there are hair salons, a pet store, Starbucks, a book store, a hobby store, an office supply store, a $1 movie theater, shoe stores, thrift stores, etc.

For eating there are a few casual dining places up or down from the neighborhood that range from hamburger joints, Italian, Me ican, to fast food such as McDonalds, Burger King, Wendy's, etc.

If you go farther west of Stonewick on FM 1960 you will not only run into restaurant row, but there is also Willowbrook Mall and an AMC theater along with both discount retailers Sam's and Costco.

If you travel east on FM 1960, you will find a lot of medical facilities. Houston Northwest Hospital is in that direction as well as a vast number of private practioners and alternative medicine places.

Houses on Stonewick are either one- or two-story homes. Fairly large; I bet the average is around 2500 square feet. The lots are also good size. Kids abound in this neighborhood and the people are very established and pleasant. In the summer we tend to stay inside our homes or go outside to swim since it's hot and humid in Houston. There isn't much of a winter here. Many people still walk around in shorts during the winter months.

There is not a lot of social activity on Stonewick although the neighbors know each other and watch out for each other. If they see a suspicious car driving down the street, they'll watch to see what it does or where it goes. Overall there is not a lot of that that goes on anyway.

We have lived on this street for 10 years now and from time to time the neighbors will get together especially for July 4th and New Year's Eve. Other than that they mostly stick to themselves as we are all busy with our own lives. But I have to say, I have some of the best neighbors.

During Hurricane Ike, everyone came out to help each other. One neighbor had gone to another place and with all the debris and trees that were blown down, everyone came out to help get things in shape even for the neighbor who was out of town.
