There are actually two famous landmarks in Somers. One is The Old Stone House, also known as the Gerard Crane House. It is a terrific example of Greek revival architecture and dates back to the mid-1800's. Another is the Elephant Hotel which is a nationally recognized historic landmark and is actually the current home of the town government. The hotel was built somewhere between the years of 1820 and 1825 by Hachaliah Bailey who is said to have been instrumental in the foundation of the American Circus. The building is considered a rare example of what is called the Federal Period domestic architecture.
