"Neighborly: A Rare Gem in New York"

Travis is a small residential community in Staten Island that is filled with friendly neighbors and a striking natural environment that makes this area a rare gem in New York.

What I am familiar with most about Travis, is its annual Independence Day Parade. It is supposed to be the oldest parade in the nation and is frequently attended by many prominent city politicians as well as thousands of patriotic residents and tourists. The entire community comes together to help out with the parade and make it a spectacular show of patriotism. Evidence of the celebration can be seen year-round in the fire hydrants lining Victory Boulevard, which are painted red, white, and blue.

However, it isn't just in July that the community comes alive. Locals can always be found in Schmul Park shooting hoops, relaxing in the open air, or supervising their playing children.

Travis is a great place for families. The schools are very good and locals boast that the neighborhood is quiet and safe. There are not a lot of restaurants in the area, but the ones that do exist provide a comfortable and appealing atmosphere. When in Travis, check out Da Noi, a well-established Italian eatery that offers elegant and attentive service. The restaurant is located on Victory Boulevard.

Most of the shops and stores are alos along Victory Boulevard, including Mother Mousse (a quaint dessert shop) and Bell-A-Roma Candle (an aromatic assault on your nose).
