"The Pearl Is Everything Portland Is: Hip, Funky, Unique"

Affectionally known as “The Pearl,” Pearl Town is the jewel in Portland’s crown. Very hip, unique, creative, funky, this is a very popular destination for residents and tourists alike.

At one time a warehouse and industrial area, these once rundown buildings were remodeled and filled with impressive art galleries, stores, wine bars and some of the best restaurant Portland has to offer. Not to be forgotten: Powell’s Books that is a book store a block wide. This place is always busy and you will constantly be stepping over customers who sit down in the middle of an aisle to read a book.

There are some really nice public plazas in the Pearl that offers nice tranquil settings. Jamison Square has a beautiful waterfall and Tanner Springs Park offer some trails and a creek where many busy Portlanders unwind during their lunch hour if the weather is nice.

As to be expected, living doesn’t come cheap in the Pearl. This area has many high-rise condos that are some of the hottest property around and you will pay dearly for it. If I had to live anywhere in downtown, this would be it. You wouldn’t need a car as public transportation is right at your doorstep and you can be at your desk in downtown in five minutes.

"Trendy and Hip Downtown Area"

Portland's Pearl District is one of its most popular neighborhoods, and for good reason. It's right in the center of Portland, surrounded by China Town, Downtown, the Willamette River, and the trendy Goose Hollow neighborhood. This is the best that urban living has to offer. Enjoy an easy commute via streetcar, MAX light rail, bus, or bike to work and play.

The Pearl District used to be an old area of warehouses and railroad yards, until it underwent redevelopment in the 1990s. Now, it still offers that historic charm, but nearly every block has been revamped to draw residents and tourists. There are plenty of new condos and loft-style apartments opening, and today the Pearl is considered one of the trendiest areas of the city. Many of these buildings offer historic features and gorgeous views of the river. Expect top floors to go for premium prices because of the improved views.

Expect busy streets lined with galleries, boutiques, and coffee shops, including a great mix of independent stores and popular chains. My personal favorite is Powell's Books, a bookstore that is unimaginably expansive.

A great example of urban renewal, this hip, thriving neighborhood seems to change every time I visit. If you want to live right in the heart of Portland, consider the Pearl.

"Fantastic Downtown Living Perfect for Trendy, Stylish Living"

The Pearl District can be found in downtown Portland. It is right between Old Town, Chinatown and Goose Hollow. I love this area and it has to be one of the nicest city living experiences in the whole country! First of all, those who work downtown will find the Pearl District to be amazingly convenient, as it is just a short walk away. Of course, being downtown, the Pearl District also offers amazing public transportation options.

If you live in this area, however, you can pretty much forget having a house. The homes are located in lofts, town houses and high rises. Since this area was originally a warehouse district, it is possible to find some interesting residences that are converted for living.

Browsing through the stores and galleries in the Pearl District is a lot of fun. You can find boutiques, galleries, amazing restaurants and some antique stores as well. Most of these stores are independently owned, although you do see some chains like West Elm sneak in.

Many of the restaurants in the Pearl District have fantastic ambiance. One great place to check out is Bluehour. I also like Park Kitchen and Silk. There are also tons of bars including Vault Martini and Vino Paradiso.
