"Not the worst but it's certainly not the best"

Parkland is a neighborhood on the far west side of detroit, bordering dearbon heights. it,s a mixed, low income neighborhood with a good side and a bad side.

the good side is that there is a whole lot to do. Rouge park is right down warren and is a good place to sit and chill, there's 2 bars, a BP gas station on warren and ann arbor trail, and a liquor store on warren and chatham. ann arbor trail school is pretty good too.

The bad side: when we moved here in 2001, the neighborhood was extremely quiet and safe. in fact you would barely see a car come down the street. Now, in the past couple of years, the neighborhood has gone from nice, quiet, and safe to loud and crime filled. There's burglaries almost everyday and lately, we have seen an increase in car thefts and aggravated assaults(mostly gun related) it's the type of neighborhood where you have to be careful and on your guard especially at night. The neighborhood has also become a bit run down because of foreclosures and vandals. on some parts of Rockdale, Lamphere, and Parkland streets you might see about 3-5 abandoned homes in a row. Majestic and Sawyer Ave. are very trashy and run down.
Pros
  • Good school
  • River Rouge Park is close by
  • Ann Arbor Trails Schoo located here
Cons
  • moderate crime at night
  • very loud at times
  • moderately run down

"A Good Spot on the Outskirts of Town"

Though this is at the far end of the Detroit city limits, it has a lot of great benefits to it. If you don't mind being a bit removed from the center of the city, you can capture a lot of great amenities that this specific area has to offer. You are really located closer to Dearborn Heights than the actual city of Detroit, but that doesn't mean that you are lacking for the things that you really need to get to.

Within this area you are close to a nice park which is great for families with children. You are also located near some major roads, particularly Telegraph, which makes it easy to get in and around here. You can find just about everything that you could ever want in terms of restaurants, shopping, convenience, and even a bit of nightlife with the major roads that run through it.

You have good schools and a great park which makes this a popular spot for families with children. It's a good cost of living and you can get a nice home for a reasonable price. You will enjoy a neighborhood that is tight knit and feel like you are truly part of a community.

You can't go wrong here and so if you don't mind being on the outskirts of Detroit you can really get in on a great deal in a desirable spot. This is well worth checking out and may be a good match to fit all of your needs, particularly if you have children.
Pros
  • Great Area for Families with Children
  • Close to Stores, Restaurants, and Other Amenities
  • More of a Suburb Feel Than City Living
  • Good school
  • Nice clean area of Detroit with well-kept up homes
  • River Rouge Park is close by
  • Welll maintained area

"Parkland – Great for the Outdoor Enthusiast"

Really, what could possibly be better than having a park right in your backyard to enjoy whenever you want? This is a great place to walk your dog, go for a long jog or take a bike ride. Many people are not aware that this park also offers a golf course, baseball diamonds, tennis courts, picnic tables and even swimming pools.

Parkland borders Dearborn Heights so commuting to work in Detroit, Dearborn or surrounding areas won’t be a problem. There are also enough major streets here that catching a bus is pretty easy and consistent. This is a pretty mixed areas of African Americans and Arabs, and due to location, residents from K-8 typically attend Ann Arbor Trail School, which no one is complaining about; this is actually a pretty good school.

The neighborhood is fairly safe, not a bad place to raise a family. Warren Ave offers everything you could want including a car repair place, veterinary hospital, party store, food market and Sanlia’s Pizzeria & Ice Cream Parlor. If you are looking for affordable housing with a great central location and plenty of opportunity for outdoor fun, Parkland might be the place you are looking for.

"Nice area close to Dearborn Heights"

This is a nice part of Detroit located very close to Dearborn Heights. It really is about as far west you can go and still be considered Detroit. The homes in this area are predominantly of the one-story, bungalow style variety. And it is one of the few areas of the city where the street of Tireman is actually decent. The neighborhood is very low key and quiet, with not a lot of riff-raff patrolling the streets.

For someone looking to move to this neighborhood, there are sufficient amenities close by. DOT buses are a bit hard to come by unless you are down by Warren, and I am not sure how prevalent SMART buses are in this area. Warren also has quite a few retail stores and restaurants as well.

The Ann Arbor Trail School within the neighborhood is a pretty good one from what I hear. It is K-8 and a school of choice, which means students who go there meet certain academic standards.

One other bonus of living here is the fact that River Rouge Park is just around the corner. So if you are into outdoor activities, especially biking, jogging, and walking trails you are in the right area.

Telegraph and Joy Road are also close major streets, and you are not very far from the Southfield Freeway. A good solid neighborhood in my opinion.

"Beautiful setting to raise a family"

Parkland is located on the far west side of Detroit. Many Detroit police and fire fighters live in the area. Across the street is Rouge Park, where one can ride a bike, watch model airplanes, and even go for a pony ride at the old Detroit Police stables on Joy Road. You are walking distance from bus transportation and not far from Fairlane Mall and Greenfield Village, a famous landmark in the area.
