"A small town in Western Colorado"

Rifle is one of those towns many people don't get to know because they merely stop for gas here on there way to somewhere else. But when you stop and take a look around, there is a nice little town beneath the surface. With a population of just over 9,000 it certainly isn't a booming town. But it does have a nice feel to it seems like a nice place to live.

The majority of people who live here work in construction and hospitality/food services. As with the rest of the nation, when the recession hit, it hit here as well especially to those in the construction business.

The town residents are mostly White at about 75% and followed by Hispanic at 25%. The majority of the white population represents ancestors from Germany, Ireland, and England while the Hispanic population is mostly from Central America and Mexico. Almost half of the town's population identifies themselves as Catholic.

The schools in Rifle have all tested from average to below average compared to state wide testing scores.

Rifle is a great town to live in if you're an avid fisherman, camper, or backpacker. There are numerous places to go for outdoor fun and adventure when you're here. Although there aren't many restaurants or great places for shopping, Glenwood Springs is less than a half hour away on I-70.
Pros
  • a nice little town with a friendly atmosphere
  • nice views
  • quiet and peaceful
Cons
  • far from larger cities with good shopping
