"A remote town with some ancient appeal"

Rangely, Colorado lies right near the Utah border in northern Colorado in a remote location. Almost 45% of the town's population of 2,351 works in mining, quarrying, and oil and gas exploration, followed by educational services. The median household income in Rangely is $58,744 which is slightly higher than Colorado's average, although you can get a median priced home here for around $128,703 which is almost $100,000 below the state average, making this a place with a great cost of living. While the town is small, there is sufficient dining and shopping for necessary needs, although for larger shopping residents travel to Vernal, Utah which is about an hour away or to the much larger Grand Junction which is about an hour and 45 minute drive. So, Rangely is pretty remote.

One of the great things about Rangely is that there is a ton to do here. There's fishing, golf, hunting, swimming, and 16 different petroglyph sites to see hailing from the Ute and Freemont tribes. For visitors there are several motels and about 10 locally owned restaurants.
Pros
  • ancient indian ruins
  • beautiful scenery
  • small town friendliness
Cons
  • hot summers
  • remote

"Rangely is a remote small town near the Utah border"

Rangely is a small, remote town in NW Colorado with about 2,000 residents. A dominantly conservative white community with Hispanic/Latinos making up only 5% of the population, a low ratio compared to the Grand Junction area to the south. The area is known for natural gas and oil wells that you see scattered throughout the countryside. Rangely is in Rio Blanco County and is a sister town to Meeker to the east about 50 miles away. Rangely is only about 20 miles from the Utah border.

The town has the Rangely Airport a small airport ideal for hunters, outdoor enthusiasits and local residents who are pilots. The town has one of two Colorado Northwestern Community College campuses and the public school system gets good reviews, offering a good student to teacher ratio unlike the crowded Front Range communities.

Rangely was the location of the prehistoric Fremont culture. There are four notable sites in the area that date between 0 – 1499 AD: Collage Shelter Site, Cañon Pintado, Carrot Men Pictograph Site, Fremont Lookout Fortification Site. There are miles of hiking and four-wheel trails up in the top topped plateaus classic for the area. This place feels like Utah and Wyoming combined and would be an ideal place to look for a investment property or hunting property. The remoteness of the area makes it very unique, beautiful and peaceful.
