"Cool City... Cute Downtown"

Mound is a really cool city on the western side of Lake Minnetonka. It has a cute downtown area with a Caribou Coffee, the Dakota Trail for biking or hiking and a big parking ramp for those commuting via bus to downtown Minneapolis.

In downtown Mound don't forget to vist Scotty B's restaurant, John's Variety and Pets or Kirby's Bait Shop.

"The Island", is a well-known portion of Mound completely surrounded by Lake Minnetonka.

"Mound Homes & Real Estate"

One very interesting fact about Mound, Minnesota is that it is the birthplace of the truck brand Tonka which is named after Lake Minnetonka. Originally, the headquarters for Tonka Toys was in Mound. It is a very unique city bordered by beautiful inlets and bays of Lake Minnetonka. Other lakes in Mound include Seton Lake, Saunders Lake, Lake Langdon which is found west of Mound right smack between Lake Minnetonka and a railroad line which is part of the Great Northern Railroad, Dutch Lake, and Black Lake.
Back in the 40’s, there was a store and an ice house at the side of Lake Langdon. The store was run by Pete and Ed Sollie and both structures still stand today. Other interesting historic spots near Lake Langdon include the Mound Baptist Church and Our Lady of the Lake Parochial School. There are over a thousand docks installed on Mounds many lakes. The lakes geologically classify Mound’s different areas and that is the reason why they are named Shirley Hills, Grandview Boulevard, The Highlands, The Island, and Three Points.
The city has six miles of shoreline filled with amazing beaches, exciting trails, and other recreational opportunities. There is always something to do all year round in Mound. Incidentally, Mound is named after the historic burial mounds dg by prehistoric Indians, not the Dakota Indians.
When it comes to education, Mound has the following schools: Shirley Hills Elementary, Mound-Westonka High School, Hilltop Primary School, and the Grandview Middle School. Minnesota has an open enrollment stature and that is the reason why some families choose to enroll their kids to other public schools.
The Mound City Council is a very active organization in terms of city services improvements. Some of the projects of the city council are the enhancement of traffic in the city’s business district, the erection of the Mound Marketplace, Lost Lake Greenway, and the Villas on Lost Lake townhouses. The council is now busy with the redevelopment of Mound known as Mound Visions which involves the restoration of the Lost lake Channel. The Mound Greenway and Pier makes it possible for people to reach Mound via boat ride.
Last year, Bloomberg Businessweek named Mound as Minnesota's Best Place to Raise Your Kids. The city has 32 parks, a modern skating park, the Dakota Rail Trail, 311 public dock sites, a biking and walking trail that spans more than 21 miles from Wayzata up to the amazing views of Lake Minnetonka.
Raise your family in the wonderful and peaceful environment of Mound, Minnesota and enjoy the city’s natural surroundings and its rich history that makes this place unique.
