"A small town with friendly people"

Kiowa, Colorado has a population of just over 700 people in the town. Located outside of the town are several thousand more, with many of the homes here are on acreage in an area with gently rolling hills speckled with pine trees. Driving through the area it's apparent there are many horse lovers and open space is abundant. While the main roads are well maintained in winter, some of the dirt roads on the outskirts of town can get messy after rain and snow. There are washboards on many of them, regardless of how many times the roads get graded, so driving fast can cause your car to fishtail while driving slow can seem as if your car will get rattled enough to fall apart.

It's very peaceful being this far out, and yet there is enough in this little town in case of emergency. There are a couple of restaurants/cafes, a gas station, a small grocery store, and down the road in Elizabeth there is a large grocery store and a Wal-Mart along with many other businesses. Large shopping for clothes and such is best done on a weekly or monthly trip to town. While there are people who commute to Denver, it is a long drive and can take a significant amount of time in the winter.

Schools in Kiowa all rank right about average scholastically when compared with other schools around the state.

While living this far out may not be for everyone, I really like it here. My father in law owned a home on 70 acres here and it was a great place to escape to. It was peaceful and quiet and when we did go into the little town for something the people were always so friendly. It's a very laid back, relaxed way of living.
