"Dolores is a sectret getway and fishing spot in sw CO"

I really enjoy getting up to the area around Dolores and Mancos, McPhee Res is a beautiful spot. If anyone is moving to Colorado's sw region I highly recommend checking out the Dolores area for homes and land, great spot and not far from Durango for shopping and restaurants, Mancos has a lot to offer for such a small town too. There is a great health food and cafe in Mancos I also highly recommend and who could complain living next to Mesa Verde, great location!
Pros
  • close to mountains and desert
  • friendly people
  • Amazingly beautiful views
  • very scenic

"A place rich in history"

Dolores has long been populated by different people. Many archaeologists believe there have been people here for several thousands of years, including both the Ute and Navajo tribes. There are many Indian ruins nearby and it's believed that even the white man has been in the area since the early 1830s. It's no wonder people came here as it is very beautiful and the river nearby provided food and water. To this day fly fishing is still very popular in this area, as are many other outdoor sports such as hunting, camping, hiking and the like.

The largest industry in Dolores is currently accommodation and food services as there are more than a few bed & breakfast and hotels in the area. There are also more than a handful of locally owned restaurants. The median household income here is $38,451 and the housing costs are in line with the incomes.

There are only 936 people living in Dolores as of the last census, but for residents who may want more shopping and dining options or medical services, they only need to travel about 15 minutes to Cortez, which is a much larger town of about 10,000. The town's makeup is predominantly white at 84%, followed by Hispanic.

"Dolores is a hidden gem in southwest Colorado"

Dolores is a cool little town just north of Mancos and not far from Cortez down in the four corners area of SW Colorado. The town has about 1000 souls and sits at the southern end of McPhee Reservoir. The reservoir is the second largest artificial body of water in Colorado and dams the Dolores River-- it provides irrigation water for the Ute Mountain Indian Reservation and Montezuma and Dolores counties.

Dolores the town is situated in the flats of the Dolores River. To the east is the wild lands of the San Juan Mountains and not far to the south are the ancient cliff dwellings of Mesa Verde. Dolores is in a gorgeous and remote section of Colorado surrounded by mountains, desert and wildlife. Great for mountain biking, hiking, camping, boating...this area should not be overlooked if you are looking to buy a home or property in SW Colorado.
