"A very small community just outside of Telluride"

Sawpit is one of the smallest towns in Colorado with only 40 residents. This area is absolutely beautiful, although it is a very remote place to be. Telluride, which is just down 145 is the nearest town and the easiest access for residents since it's only 12 miles away. It's located near great skiing and many options for outdoor adventures in both the summer and winter. Children of residents go to school in Telluride, which has excellent schools that outperform most in the state. The median household income in Sawpit is $88,486 well above the state average at $55,430. However, the home prices here are also significantly higher than the rest of the state which is $237,800. A median priced home in Sawpit goes for around $379,403. There are most likely vacation homes located here for those wealthy enough to afford having a second home so close to Telluride.

Other than a real estate office, there are no real businesses in Sawpit to speak of. Even some of the roads in town are closed from January through May as the snow gets deep and the roads are too treacherous to travel. The town lies alongside the river which is very pretty. I think for someone who doesn't mind living in a remote area, although pretty close to a larger but still remote area, this would be a great place to live. Numerous outdoor activities along with incredible scenery lend to the charm of this area.
