The location is okay. It is a little bit on the older side with lots of 1950's syle Ranch homes. It is a working class kind of a neighborhood. It is also home to the Charles Shultz Museum (of Peanuts fame). There is a bus that runs along West Steele so you can get around without a car.

Crime is below the national average in Santa Rosa but not altogether non-existent. Overall it is pretty average--though it is surrounded by places that people love: Sabastapool and Rohnert Park and if you like Wine Country you are basically there.

There is easy access to every amenity in this very central downtown location. The senior complex is large and well contained. You are very close to Coddingtown for any shopping needs you might have. There is easy highway access and it's close to public transportation.

The area is centrally located in Santa Rosa and walking distance to Coddingtown Mall (which is currently undergoing a long overdo remodel). You will find superior access to public transportation and soon (about 18 months from now) the new SMART train will be making the area one of its' stops, which will take passengers North to the airport and South to San Rafael. Eventually (think 10 years more) this will connect as far north as Cloverdale and as far South as Larkspur (where you can catcha ferry to San Francisco). This area is host to many retail and office properties as well.

Santa Rosa is now about 170,000 residents and the largest city in California North of San Francisco. There are numerous other locale's to consider as well. In speaking to many seniors (55+) they have expressed great pleasure being in the Oakmont Community which is host to nearly 4,000 residents. It is quietly located on the far East side of town, adjacent to Annadel State Park and boasts public transportation, numerous daily planned opportunities as well as biking/ walking paths through the parks. You will find about an 85% owner occupied ratio there and several types of housing options (condo, apartment, triplex units, home w/yard, home w/patio) some of which even rest on the one of 2 golf courses in the community. Oakmont also has restaurants, deli, market, banks, salons, travel agency, etc. Many residents enjoy the ease of walking about the area and some even use their own golf carts to move throughout as it is quite extensive. They also have 3 separate rec centers (pool, tennis, bocce, club rooms).

The area is centrally located to Coddingtown Mall (which is in the process of a significant and overdo remodel). It is host to the biggest/newest Whole Foods we have ever seen. The area has other extensive retail and office space, along with rental housing and some owner occupied properties as well. You will find easy access to public transportation within walking distance. Additionally, the new SMART train will be making one of its' stops there when it starts running in about 18 months.

Santa Rosa has approximately 170,000 residents, is the largest city in California north of San Francisco and has numerous areas you may consider for your housing needs. We have seen many happy seniors (55+) find the Oakmont Community on the far East end of town in the wine country and adjacent to Annadel State park to be ideal for them. It is an active adult community with about 4,000 residents. It has about an 85% owner occupied ratio and could offer you housing in many different styles (condo, triplex, home w/patio, home w/yard). The community is host to 2 golf courses, medical facilities, restaurants, banks and even its' own little market. You often find people moving about in their golf carts as it is an easy way to get to everywhere there.
