San Francisco State University, San Francisco crime - do the locals think there is alot of crime in the neighborhood?

I don't know if the crime actually is bad there, not having lived there. But I've spoken to a fair number of students from SFSU who were worried about crime and claim they have had problems with car break-ins that kind of thing. Is it worse than anywhere else in the city? It is certainly not considered as dangerous as Hunter's Point or even the Tenderloin.

I think it is mostly fine. Like anywhere else common sense should rule the day. Don't go out alone at night. Don't leave your door unlocked. Etc.
