What are the best places to stair climb in SF?

Stair climbing is such a good work out. Plus you get to be outdoors in a beautiful city like San Francisco. I know there are the Filbert Street Steps (between Sansome Street and Telegraph Hill) which has 377 steps. There is also the Lyon Street Steps, between Green Street and Broadway which has 288 steps. I know there are others. Anyone?

Nope. Nothing. But really good idea!! I'll have to look into this more, because SF is definitely the place for that. I haven't heard of anyone else doing this consistently, but then again I'm new to the area. Good deal!

I didn't see this post when I mentioned the Vallejo Steps in my other post. The Vallejo Steps take you from Mason to Jones. You go through Ina Coolbright Park and you get rewarded with a great view at the top. Lot's of neat architecture. (Its right at the end of Vallejo Street where North Beach turns into Russian Hill).

Another park that has some cool steps and a great view is Buena Vista Park where Haight meets Duboce Triangle. Nice architecture and there are trails where you almost feel like you're not in the city for like 2 minutes anyway.

This is in Berkeley, but a really great place for stair climbing in the East Bay is on Panorama Hill in Berkeley. Not only are their really cool stairs in very woody areas but if you are into twentieth century architectures you can take in the Maybeck's, Julia Morgan's and Frank Lloyd Wrights that dot the landscape. You can actually hike all the way up into Tilden if you follow the firelanes. Really outstanding views of the SF Bay from Oakland to Sausalito.

Oh, I found the Vallejo steps near Montgomery - they are a doozy! I didn't think to count them until I was out of breath and I wasn't going to start over. Maybe next time. (although they were STEEP!)

This wasn't technically stair climbing, but I hiked up Mason Street in San Francisco one time, and it turned out to be the wrong Mason Street (not to be confused with OLD Mason Street). It was quite the massive climb, and I looked very obviously lost before I realized I was completely lost...
