Should crime rate deter us from moving to Redwood Heights/Montclair?

We are about to sign a lease on a sweet little house in Redwood Heights. Our realtor told us that Montclair is the closest area for coffee shops, restaurants, etc. We have been researching crime rates in both areas, and are beginning to wonder if we are making the right decision. I am only in my early 50s, but I feel vulnerable, as I use a cane. My husband is able-bodied, and I can have him accompany me most places while I get acclimated. Thank you!
