"Average yet questionable street with a great view"
Rainier Avenue S is one of the better streets running through the neighborhood, but that isn't say a whole lot by comparison. Lots of mom and pop stores, grocers, ethnic restaurants, a couple of hair salons, and smoke shops. The street is busy as it is one of the main thoroughfares through the area. I would say this is a real average street for the neighborhood but poor in comparison to overall Seattle. There are a lot of nicer places I would rather be. Not the safest or the cleanest but just okay.
The only great thing about the street is that on a clear sunny day you can catch a wonderful view of Mt. Rainier. The price of beauty I suppose. The natural landscape is classic Pacific Northwest, but there are better places in Seattle with plenty of view.

"On a clear day, the mountain comes out!"
Rainier Avenue South runs southeast through the city of Seattle, and on a clear sunny day you can see Mt. Rainier, for which the street is named, as you travel southward toward Renton. Rainier Avenue demonstrates much of the diversity found in Seattle, beginning with the Vietnamese and Chinese restaurants of the International District and flowing through Mount Baker, Columbia City, Hillman City and farther south to Rainier Beach. All along Rainier Avenue you find small businesses of all types - mom and pop groceries, small pho and teriyaki restaurants, and mainstream grocery stores like Safeway and QFC. It's a real slice of Seattle life.

"A little ghetto, but only if you're just visiting"
Rainier Ave S is one half of one of the longest streets in Seattle, I think. It's got a lot of apartments and coin laundry and grocery stores and fast food joints. The sit down restaurants are divine, they're largely asian inspired or mexican but always delicious. There are a number of small local businesses, a couple community centers and libraries. There is a high school being built and will be open pretty soon and another high school a little off of Rainier, but it still holds it's name. Rainier Ave S is a good place if you like variety and a good mix of people and industry, from the poor to the upper middle class. The nightlife on Rainier Ave is mostly located in the Columbia City area, it's got a movie theatre and a performance theatre as well as several delicious restaurants and relaxed bars.
